GnatGPT

Six neurons. Zero shame. One-hundred-percent hallucination.

A parody AI chatbot powered by a single gnat's six-neuron brain, complete with premium pricing and a proudly-advertised 100% hallucination rate.

Ask it anything; it answers in confident, nectar-scented word salad — the footer warns it is “a jar of random numbers pretending to be a brain.”
The itch

Every product on earth was bolting a chatbot onto itself and calling it intelligence. I wanted to build the dumbest possible model and market it with the exact same straight face — six neurons, reasoning by lamp, and the confidence of a trillion-dollar lab.

The hard part

A one-note joke dies on the second scroll. To survive, it had to actually function as a product — and the generated text had to be dumb in a way that's funny, not just random noise. There's a narrow band between "word salad" and "boring."

How I built it

I drove the chat with a tiny RNN so the output is genuinely, structurally wrong — real word-salad, not scripted gags — and then committed completely to the bit around it: fake premium tiers, lamp-based reasoning, and the hallucination rate reframed as a headline metric. The deadpan does the heavy lifting; nothing in the UI ever admits it's a joke.

Where it landed

It's live at gnatgpt.app and it fully works as a product — you can chat with the gnat, hit its neuron limits, and get quoted a price for more. A joke that holds up as a real, usable thing.

Devlog

live from git
  1. Map RNN character output to words for readable gnat word-salad
  2. Mobile overhaul: hamburger sidebar, send button fix, safe areas
  3. Add animated "New! Try GnatGPT Pro" tooltip on model picker
  4. Fix iOS Chrome/Safari bottom cutoff
  5. Create CNAME
  6. Delete CNAME
  7. Create CNAME
  8. Replace Transformers.js with pure JS 100K-param RNN, add fly & polish

Pulling off a deadpan parody means nailing tone, generative text, pricing UX, and product polish all at once — the same full-stack taste I'd bring to building your actual hard thing, minus the gnat.

Want a product with a personality this specific? Let's talk — I promise more than six neurons.
